On 8 July 2025, a key meeting was held at ČMŽO - elektronika, Přerov, with the representatives of ČMŽO - elektronika, ANGELSTAR, Siemens Mobility and TRAMECo Systems. ANGELSTAR, a joint venture between Stadler and MERMEC, is with its GUARDIA system another OBU ETCS manufacturer entering the Czech market.
Representatives of ANGELSTAR came to the Czech Republic with the aim of establishing closer cooperation with ČMŽO - elektronika, which acts as the OBU ETCS integrator in this project. The program included the presentation of the Class 362.2 machine for RegioJet, during which the proposed concept of integrating ETCS into these vehicles was confirmed. The visit thus represents an important step in the framework of technical preparation and coordination between all involved partners.
ČMŽO - elektronika, together with the three mentioned companies as subcontractors, will retrofit OBU ETCS to the nine RegioJet‘s 362.2 locomotives. The components of the MIREL VZ1 ATP from Siemens Mobility (since November 2023 the owner of the Bratislava-based HMH, from whose development MIREL VZ1 originates) and the JRU/TRU recording units from TRAMECo, Blansko will be used.
The RJ‘s Class 362.2 is being created by rebuilding the original Class 162 3 kV DC locomotives, which are currently underway. Technically, work on two locomotives has been completed so far, after receiving APOM (Authorisation for Placing On the Market), RegioJet will have them at its disposal before they are later added to the OBU ETCS retrofits.
